The report covers the year ending 1 October 1888 and consists of the reports of the bureau trustees and state mineralogist, county activity reports, essays related to the mining industry, and other items. The report on Los Angeles County discusses observations made on visits in 1872, 1874, and 1888. There are many illustrations and tabular statements, some of which fold out.
