Description

EL CAMPO SANTO CEMETERY FROM NORTHEAST, CA. 1907 Color: Black and white A black and white reproduction photograph of El Campo Santo cemeteryfrom the northeast, ca. 1907. The cemetery, in the foreground, is shown in a state of destruction with portions of the northern wall seen at center and right; rubble from the east wall at the left; and the west wall the only part of the enclosure left intact. Also intact is the cast-iron fenced plot with the John Rowland tombstone barely visible. At center is a small gravestone, wich appars to be that of Nellie Drown, parts of which are in the HM collection. In the background at right, behind the west wall, are portions of two buildings that are also obscured by trees. The image was used by Walter Temple in a lawsuit against L. F. Lewis, seeking to halt the latter's destruction of the cemetery. Being a new print, the image is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
