Description

El Mercado Market, probably by Graham Photo Company, ca. 1929. The view is of the Spanish Colonial Revival-style structure from Western Avenue at the intersection of Fernwood Avenue in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. The L-shaped structure has open stalls in a portico alignment and there is an enclosed space called "El Comedor" at the far right. A sign with the market's name is on the roof at the far left. An inscription at lower center reads "El Mercado market / Fernwood and Western Ave. / Los Angeles, Calif. / equipped by Henslee Store Fixture Co." With minor soiling and edge wear, the condition is good.
