Description

Color: Black; White A black and white postcard of Olvera Street called "El Paseo de Los Angeles," ca. 1920s. Many people walk on the brick-lined street at the center while others sit on a fountain at the far left which is near a palm tree. More people sit at tables and stand under the awnings of a two-story brick building at the far right. The structure has a balcony on the second floor and iron light fixtures. Another brick building, which also has a second-floor balcony, is at the right of the back. At the front of the buidling are several people who look at merchandise displayed near the door. More crowds and a brick structure are across the background. Many people crowd around awning-covered merchandise stands. Los Angeles City Hall towers over all of the latter structures in the distance, illustrating the evolution of the city's architecture. Printed in white at the bottom right corner is, "El Paseo de Los Angeles / (Olvera Street) / Los Angeles, Calif." On the back are marked areas for correspondence, address, and a square box for postage. The artifact is in good condition with only light abrasions at the corners.
