Description

Color: Orange; White "El Pueblo: Los Angeles Before the Railroads," written by the Publicity Department of the Equitable Branch of the Security Trust and Savings Bank of Los Angeles (Los Angeles: Security Trust and Savings Bank, 1928), 80 pp. The front cover has a photograph of the plaza area, ca. 1869, on the front cover within a black-line border. At the top of this is the main title, with the subtitle in an oval border at the bottom. The work is a general history of the city from Spanish exploration (although there is a very short section on the Indian village of Yang-Na) to 1876, when the transcontinental railroad link via the Southern Pacific line was completed. At the end is a short history of the bank. Many black and white photographs of the city, leading citizens, commercial buildings, houses, maps, and others are found throughout the book. With some cover creases, corner dents, soiling, a few stains, edge tears, and light page discoloration, the overall condition is good.
