Description

Color: Black; White A photograph of the entrance and old bell at the Sonoma Mission, 1926. In the right foreground is the bell, hung from a rough wood support, on which, at the right, grows a clinging vine. A few pieces of flagstone or other type of stone are placed in the grass below and the lawn stretches throughout the foreground. At the background left is the mission entrance, including a simple doorway with exposed lintel and casement. Atop the tiled roof is a simple wooden cross. Extending toward the right is a wing of the church fronted by a tiled-roofed portico with some vines planted along two of the posts supporting the portico. At the lower left of the entrance on the wall of the structure is a sign reading "SONOMA / MISSION / Open to the PUBLIC / Admission FREE." At the far left are portions of nearby buildings, but too little can be seen to make any determination as to what they were. On the reverse is, in blue ink, the stamped number "45." With surface stains on the reverse and front and evidence of water damage, the object is in fair condition. Number-Units: 1
