Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the entrance gate to El Campo Santo by Marvin Rand, April 1974. The gate is at center, largely covered and shadowed by the branches of a tree, with the iron doors partially open. Flanking the gate are two large brick pillars with cement or concrete bases, from which extend low curbs curving away from the pillars. Within the gates, in the background, is part of the front elevation of the mausoleum. Other than the tree, there are some bushes or shrubs on either side of the walk just inside the gate. At the top of the reverse is a black ink inscription by restoration architect Raymond Girvigian reading "WEST ELEVATION CEMETERY WALL / DETAIL MAIN GATE / PHOTO BY MARVIN RAND, L0S ANGELES / TAKEN APRIL 1974 (PRIOR TO RESTORATION)." To the right of this is the stamp of Girvigian, with his name, address and telephone number. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
