Description
ENTRANCE TO AN UNIDENTIFIED CALIFORNIA MISSION, 1920s
Color: Black; White
A photograph of the entrance and an adjacent bell tower at an unidentified California mission, ca. 1926. The entrance is arched and one of the two large wooden doors is open. Above is a narrow window with french doors over it. Flanking the entrance are two walls extending from the building at 45 degree angles. A wooden chair sits outside the entrance. The bell tower is attached to the structure at the left and has a graduated set of arches with one of these, missing its bell, at the top and two rows of two arches with the upper of these rows missing a bell at the right arch. The tower is topped by a simple wooden cross. On the reverse center is a round stamp from the Anderson Photo Service in El Monte and the number "5" is stamped at the bottom left corner. There is some staining at the upper center and upper left edge of the front and some light surface soiling on the reverse, but the artifact is generally in good condition.
