A color postcard of the entrance to Selig's Zoo, Los Angeles, August 14, 1923. At the center and right are two brick towers connected to one-story wings. Each tower has a large arched doorway at the bottom. Both structures have red-tile roofs and such architectural details as brackets; iron balconies at the top left; moulds; a border of sculptured animals along the top of the wings and arches; and statues of lions. These statues flank two iron gates between which is a large square pedestal. On the top of the pedestal are figures of elephants and a pole. Paths which lead to the structures are across the foreground as well as a lawn and flower-bed. Across the background are bushes, trees, and palms. Across the top in black ink is, "680:-Entrance Selig's Zoo, Los Angeles, Cal." At the left of the back is the name and address of the M. Kashower Company in blue. Also on the left is a greeting written in French with black ink. A black circular postage stamp is at the top with the location, date, and time the postcard was processed. At the top right corner is a green one-cent postage stamp with an image of George Washington. Written below this the addressee's name and address. Although the first name of the person is written as, "Mrs. A.," the last name is not discernible. With only light abrasions and surface soiling, the object is in good condition.Lexicon
