2006.305.1.1Description
Photograph of the Jacob G. Evans family and home, Fruitland Ranch (Los Angeles), California, Garden City Photo Company, 1 July 1895. The view shows the family of five posed on the lawn in front of the simple one-story wooden house surrounded by a verdant landscape of trees, bushes, shrubs, lawn, and other plantings. Written in pen at the bottom margin is "FRUITLAND RANCH / DAISY, MOTHER, FATHER J.G. EVANS, RAY + EARL EVANS." On the reverse is printed information about the photographer and in ink is the inscription "Taken July 1, 1895 / Daisy Belle Evans / Fruitland / California." The Evans family lived at 1020 Vernon Avenue, likely west of Central Avenue, in what was the Fruitland precinct of Rancho San Antonio, now Los Angeles. The family seems to have resided here from about 1895 until the 1920s, based on census data. With significant damage to the matte, including losses, stains, tears, and other, but most of the image intact, but with a loss at the upper left and lower right and soiling and stains, the condition is poor.Lexicon
