Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of Evergreen Lane, looking east toward the cemetery, ca. 1941-42. The photographer stood in the center of the road at the junction of the east driveway, leading to Valley Bouelvard. At the left behind some landscaping, including bushes, shrubs, and palm trees is a wood grandstand at the reservoir/swimming pool and what may be one of the dressing rooms. Down the road at the center is a man in the distance and behind him is the sentinel palm in the heart-shaped planter in front of the cemetery and then the mausoleum. At the right is the one-story brick building that was once part of the winery; later a garage, under the Temples; and, at this time when the sanitarium was operating on the site, a residence hall. A large wooden pole, for electrical power perhaps, is directly behind the building. Flanking Evergreen Lane are bushes, shrubs, and trees, including more palms. On the reverse top left corner is the stamped number "48", while at the bottom is the penciled inscription by a former museum curator, "s,. bench type 2 tier wood floor / grandstand. Torn down prior / to B.B. [Bob Brown] sale of prop. to city." Occasional staining and smearing aside, the artifact is in good condition.
