Description

EXAMPLES OF PLASTIC ORNAMENT, THE CATALOG OF VOIGT COMPANY Color: Brown "Examples of Plastic Ornament, The Catalog of Voigt Company", (4th ed., Philadelphia: The Voigt Company, 1928), 229 pp. A hardcover book (a) with affixed chart of trade discounts (b), without dustjacket, with a brown simulated leather cover. Inside a stylized border at the center of the front cover is a logo with a nude female figure with hands extended towards the sun. A motto, "FOR BETTER EXPRESSION / THRU PLASTIC ARTS" is on this sun figure and the company name is on either side of the female figure. The partial title, "Examples of / PLASTIC / ORNAMENT" is below the logo. The word "VOIGT" is on the spine. The catalogue provides black and white photographs of offered products with prices. Items include architraves; balustrades; bands; brackets; capitals; ceilings; columns; corbels; cornices; dentils; grilles; finials; medallions; mouldings; pilasters; rosettes; shields; and wall surfacing, among others. At the front are examples of product models; installed ceilings; and company plant department locations. There are also several pages of images on Castex ceilings produced by the company. The trade discount chart is a schedule of percentages offered per piece or foot of material. It was stapled to the frontispiece, but was removed for conservation reasons by museum staff. With significant abrasions on the cover edges and spine; fading of the cover logo; and an unknown material adhered to the back cover, the book is in fair condition.
