The item contains: instructions for Edwin Stanton to consult on land claims matters; correspondence about the appropriation to defend against fraudulent land claims; expenditures for the land claims assistance totaling about $85,000 of some $100,000 appropriated; a report on the legal assistance rendered and an assessment of various claims; an abstract of the finances involved in the process. As disbound and with some browning, a few instances of foxing, and a puncture mark at the back, but pages very clean, the item is in good condition.
