Description

"EZRA MEEKER AT AVIATION MEET, LOS ANGELES, JAN. 1910" Color: Black; White A real photo postcard titled "1551 - EZRA MEEKER AT AVIATION MEET / LOS ANGELES, JAN. 1910," published by Benham Company and printed by Neuner Co., Los Angeles, 1910. The image shows Meeker, an elderly white-bearded man in a light-colored suit standing with his hand on the rear of an ox, which is attached to an old covered wagon. There are spectators and a rider on horseback around Meeker, while overhead are two biplanes. The aviation exhibition was the first in Los Angeles and one of the earliest large-scale events of its type in the world, taking place at Dominguez Field in south Los Angeles. On the divided back are spaces for a message and an address, indications of where to place the stamp and giving the cost for domestic and foreign stamps, the publisher's name at the left, the phrase "Made in California" at the upper left and an image of an angel blowing a trumpet, attached to which is a panel reading "NEUNER CO. / CALITYPE / PROCESS." With edge and corner rubbing, a small crease at the top right corner and one at the bottom left, and some surface soiling, especially on the back, the general condition is good.
