Photograph of the Fairmont Hotel, Fairmont, California, 1891. The view shows the front facade of the two-story wood structure and about thirty persons, a few on the second floor balcony over the entrance and the remainder on the first floor porch, as well as horse-drawn conveyance. At the background left is a portion of a barn and in the distance are some low hills. An "x" is written next to a man on the second floor balcony and the name "E.M. Durant" is written on the top margin to correspond. On the reverse is Durant's name and "Fairmont Hotel - 1891 / Fairmont, Calif." With stains, soiling, acid burns and edge wear on the matte, but the photo generally clean, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
