Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the Farmers and Merchants National Bank vault, ca. 1870s. The two doors of the vault are seen near the bottom. They each have two iron bars positioned across the center and between each bar is the circular handle and latch devices. On the left side of the left door, and on the right of the right, is a thick iron latch running from top to bottom with bolts on the top and bottom center. Between the doors is a panel with two switches. Wood paneling with stud designs surrounds the perimeters of the doors. On both extremes of the doors are carved column designs with volute shapes. Above is a Greek-style design which includes a sloping cornice with a coat of arms, and ornate leaf designs on either end. On top of the cornice is a carved-wood panel. This design is inset into a larger carving with two columns on the far left and right, and volutes on the ends. Across the top is a frieze with flower carvings on both ends, with dentil and border design along the top. Across the center of the frieze are the words, "FARMERS & MERCHANTS NATIONAL BANK." On the bottom center of the image it reads, "LOS ANGELES, CAL." With no signs of wear, the object is in good condition.
