Description

FIRST LOS ANGELES CABLE RAILWAY CAR CROSSING FIRST STREET BRIDGE, 1889 Color: Black; White A reproduced black and white photograph of the arrival of the first Los Angeles Cable Railway Co. car to Boyle Heights on the First Strreet bridge, Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, August 1889. The double car crosses the wooden bridge, filled with passengers and decorated with bunting and American flags. Observers and pedestrians are around the car, some sitting on the rail of the bridge at far left. A horse-drawn carriage is at the right, circumventing the car to pass it. Little else is visible, perhaps a portion of the Los Angeles River and some trees around it are visible through the rail at the far left. See items .26 and .28 for related images. As a newly produced photograph, the artifact is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
