Description

FIVE GIRLS FROM ST. MARY'S ACADEMY AT HOMESTEAD SWIMMING POOL Color: Black; White A black and white photograph, with duplicate, of five classmates of Agnes Temple from St. Mary's Academy, Los Angeles, at the Homestead swimming pool, May 1925. Visiting for a senior class picnic, the five girls are arm-in-arm at the west end of the pool. Each wears a one-piece suit, four of them dark with white belts, one light with a dark belt. Three of the girls have stripes on their suits. All wear bathing caps, in various designs. Behind them is the pool, with another student in the water at background left. The pool has a pipe fence surrounding it and two light fixtures, at far left and at right, are attached to the fence. Vaguely seen landscaping is visible in the background, as well. On the reverse upper left is a stamped number "8", while at the center, in red ink, is an inscription indicating that Teresa Whitaker Husting, donor of the image, is on the far left, a girl named Viola at far right, and "gang from school" are the others. Two corners are creased and there is some surface soiling on the reverse, but the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
