Description

A real photo postcard of flood damage along the Arroyo Seco in Los Angeles, California. ca. 1910s. There is a group of men and women standing in the debris, which includes wood beams, plywood, and pieces of trees. The image shows fallen and standing homes on the left of the river bank with roofs sunk in the river. The back is labeled "Arroyo Seco flood - 1912-13 / Highland Park (Los Angeles) L.A. CA., Cal. / Photo by Chas. F. Lummis." The image is one of five in this acquisiton which shows the aftermath of the flood. There is mirroring, fading, silverfish damage on the reverse side, and discoloration on the right side of the front, so the object is in good condition overall.
