Description

a)Painting: Landscape painted by Harry Smith, c. 1930. The oil painting shows a mountain landscape with a green meadow and trees in the foreground. Snowy mountain peaks and a cloudy sky are seen at top from left to right. Green grass and tall pine trees are seen at center and center right. Large boulders are painted at bottom left and bottom center. Painting is signed by the painter at bottom left corner. The painting is executed in the style of the "plein air" school. The artist is registered in "Davenport's Art Reference & Price Guide" as being a resident of Glendale, California in 1928. b)Carved & gilded wooden frame. Frame has been carved in a free-form style and has burnished gilt over red gesso. There are indications on the back of the frame to suggest that either the current painting was removed and reframed upside down or that the frame once held a different painting. Overall physical condition and appearance of both the painting and frame are good. Harry Smith
