Description

"Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper," 18 December 1858 (No. 159, Vol. VII). The paper has much domestic and foreign news, articles of historical and special interest, correspondence, a serial work of fiction, and advertisements. A major article concerns a route through Mexico to California, accompanying which is a nearly full-page map showing different routes across Mexico and Central America to California, including the one featured in the article across Tehuantepec. A lithograph on the opposite page shows the opening of the route and the carrying of mail at the village of Suchi. As disbound, with creases, small tears, and some soiling, the overall condition is good.
