Description

"From Normal School, Looking East," Los Angeles, Ellis and Son, ca. 1885. The view, taken from the newly-opened State Normal School, now the site of the Los Angeles Central Public Library, looks towards the Los Angeles River. Notable are Central Park (now Pershing Square), near the center; St. Vincent's College, to the right; several churches, and many homes. The photographer's name is at the left and their address at the right. The title comes from an ink inscription on the reverse. Aside from some edge rubbing and stains and soiling on the reverse, the condition is good.
