Description

FRONT DOOR AREA OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE DURING PLASTER STRIPPING Color: Brown; White A color polaroid photograph of the front door area of the Workman House during plaster stripping, 27 April 1978. At left is the door, partially opened, with the door and frame largely a white color as if prepped for repainting. The same applies to the window to the west, which has the same appearance. The wall around the door and window has most of the yellow or cream-colored modern plaster stripped off and a larger portion of the wall has the original "granite block" plasterwork underneath, gouged for the preparation of the modern plaster layer over it. At the bottom right below the window and near the door is a section of exposed adobe. Part of the wood header above the adobe wall is at the top right, but it is too dark to make out detail. A pipe, probably for electrical connections runs along part of the left side of the door frame. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Workman Res. / North porch, main door / plas. stripping showing / decorative blocks under / photo by archt 4/27/78." Under this is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and phone number covered by a piece of tape. With no indication of significant wear or damage, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
