Description
FRONT WALL OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE DURING PLASTER STRIPPING
Color: Brown; White
A color polaroid photograph of the front wall of the Workman House during plaster stripping, 27 April 1978. The opened door is at the left and both the door and the wood frame are white, as if primed for repainting. To the right is the window, which has one sheet of glass and was replaced by an older double hung window in restoration. On the wall between the door and the window is part of the recent layer of plaster adjacent to the door frame, while the underlying "granite block" decorative plasterwork is next to this, gouged in preparation for restoration. Below this and also under the window appears to be some of the original adobe. More of the historic "granite block" and more modern yellow plaster is at right around the window and going toward the corner of the wall. Plaster debris on the floor is notable at the very bottom of the image. On the reverse is an ink inscription reading "Workman Residence / North porch / stripping non-historic / plaster prior to restor- / ation / photo by archt 4-27-78." Beneath this is a stamp for restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number, covered by a piece of tape. There is little indication of wear or damage and the artifact is in good condition.
