Description

Color: Brown; White A color polaroid photograph of the front wall of the Workman House during plaster stripping, 27 April 1978. The focus is on the east side, including the two windows, both of which have white painted frames, perhaps in perparation for restoration, and single sheets of glass, instead of the double-hung windows put in later. In the window at the right is a sign warning of potential hazards to entering the building. A small portion of the front door, similar in appearance to the windows, is on the far right. Most of the modern yellow plaster, except for a section along the left edge of the front door, is removed leaving the remnants of the original "granite blocks" decorative plasterwork, gouged for the modern plaster layer over it. At the top appear to be exposed portions of adobe. To the top right are sections of the lath in the ceiling. At the bottom is part of the porch floor. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Workman Residence / North porch, looking south / photo Jeff Tyler, Alhambra / R-5 #29 / ca. 6/78." Under this is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and phone number covered by a piece of tape. With no indication of significant wear or damage, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
