Description

Color: Blue; Red; Green; Orange; Yellow; White The game board for "Climb-It: The Universal Game," manufactured in Los Angeles by EDCO Specialty Services and copyrighted by Earl Edwards, 1928. The back is black colored and, one one side, there is an orange label with the title of the game, superimposed over an image of a mountain top. The phrase "ONE PLAY IS THE PROOF" is at the top and the name of the manufacturer, the location, and the copyright holder's name is on the lower section. The words "Recreational," "Educational," and "Relaxational" are also toward the bottom. The board, when unfolded, shows a trail of 184 steps from the start to the "Summit Success" denoting the finish. Along the way are red spaces, indicating negative qualities that detour the player into problem areas, such as the hospital, jail, asylum, padded cell, reformatory, school, gym, college and poor house. Blue spaces are good qualities that allow the player to advance a number of spaces. There are images asscoiated with the problem areas, as well as the summit with a winding road to the forest around the summit. At the lower left is the name of the game, the name of the manufacturer, its location, and the patent date of 1928. Items 2-7 in this accession constitute the box, spinning wheel, and four game pieces. In good condition, the board has some light rubbing and abrasions, some soiling on the inside, and very light white spots on the back.
