Description

Color: Green "Gardening in California, Landscape and Flower" by John McLaren (San Francisco: A. M. Robertson, 1924), 395pp. A hardcover book, without dustjacket, having a green cover with a tree design on the front cover in gold with front cover and spine text in gold. This is the third edition of the work by the superintendent of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, intended for both the professional and amateur gardener. Chapters deal with siting a garden; planning, preparation, construction, and planting; sections on lawns, trees and shrubs, and other plants; ponds, lakes, and water gardens; indoor gardening; disease and insect problems; and sand reclamation. There are dozens of illustrations and an index. There are abrasions, overall surface soiling, scratches on the cover; minor binding brittleness; minor discoloration; fading of the spine lettering; and a few instances of foxing on the inner covers and some pages, but the book is in generally good condition.
