Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the Gassen housing tract in Los Angeles, September 1923. Several homes are in the background, some along an unpaved road that runs from left to right, and others are further in the distance on small slopes. Most the the structures appear to be one-story bungalows and all have small yards. Near the houses are utility posts. A little girl wearing a dress and a bonnet stands on a mound of dirt at the center of the foreground. The girl holds a hoe in her right hand, and laying on the dirt in front of her are a rake and a shovel. The date is written in ink at the bottom right corner. Remnants of black paper are on all the back corners. A white label at the top of the back reads "Gassen tract / homes, LA / 1923 / 02685." In good condition, the image has slight yellowing of the paper, light surface creases, and pencil markings on the back.
