2008.156.1.1Description
George Lacour and Son liquor dealer, postmarked 11 April 1908. The item is printed onto postcard paper, but does not have publishing information. The image shows a two-story structure, located at 367 Aliso Street, at left with the company name on it. At right is a one-story frame building, at 371 Aliso, that appears to be the office as well as an affiliated French restaurant. Lacour's stepson, Franck Puissegur, ran a saloon in the smaller structure from 1909. The main building was erected in 1897 after an earlier one was gutted by fire. At one time, Lacour was manager of a hotel in the Jennette Building at 401 N. Los Angeles Street, adjacent to the Garnier Building. His son, Fred, was co-owner with two other French natives of the "California French Baking Company" from 1916. Written in ink in French at the top right of the image is "La Famille Lacour / Vous envoie / Le bonjour." On the reverse is the date of 11 April, a message in French, and an address of the recipient in San Francisco. With soiling, creases, edge rubbing, and an acid burn at the upper right of the reverse, the condition is fair.
