Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of a gondola on the Grand Canal in Venice, ca. 1930. The gondola is at the center with the gondolier standing on the back. Two people sit across from each other in the middle of the boat. At the center of the background is what appears to be a church with capitals, arches, and a domed top. Flanking this are many brick structures. On the back is writing in Agnes Temple's hand that reads, "Luis took this picture / from our hotel room / overlooking the grand / canal in Venice. / Rec'd at La Puente / Feb. 10, 1930." The photograph was taken during Temple's honeymoon and was housed in her album, which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs, which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With water damage and light smearing of the ink at the back, the image is in fair condition overall.
