Description

Color: Gold; Red "Governor Dummer Academy History: 1763-1963," by John W. Ragle (Boston: Newburyport Press, Inc., 1963), 187 pp. The book has a red hardcover with the title in gold at the top of the front. The author's name is also in gold at the bottom. Both the title and author's name are on the spine in gold. At the beginning of the front are a title page, a foreword, a preface, a table of contents, and a prologue. The book chronicles the history of the school, which was named after Lieutenant Governor William Dummer and is the oldest boarding school in the United States. Beginning with the Dummer family's arrival in America, the book also has information on alumni, school activities, the student body, faculty, and more. Black and white photographs are included. At the end are an appendix, a listing of former headmasters, and an index. A dustjacket is in the collection and is item number .2. Walter P. Temple, Jr. and brother Edgar attended the school from 1926-29. With light abrasions, some fading of the gold lettering on the cover, and small stains, the artifact is in good condition.
