GRAVESITE OF GEORGE G. BELT, STOCKTON RURAL CEMETERY
Color: Color
A color photograph of the gravesite of George G. Belt, Stockton Rural Cemetery. The granite marker has a curved top edge with a shield-like plaque on the face with the lettering: "GEORGE G. BELT / BORN / Sept. 20, 1825 / DIED / June 3, 1869." At the bottom right of the stone is the manufacturer's mark, which is difficult to read, but appears to say "B. Goets & Co. / Stockton." At the upper right is part of a Belt family marker which also has Belt's name, birth, and death dates on it, as well as that of his wife and son (see item .9 for an image of this marker.) Belt, the father of Josephine Workman, wife of Joseph M. Workman, was a judge in Stockton and was murdered in that town on 3 June 1869. Other than the lawn and some shrubs in the background, there are no other features of note to the image, which is in mint condition.
