"Greetings from Camp Baldy — Down Kerckhoff's Grade," Alexander's Photos, ca. 1910s. The photograph is of a narrow dirt road passing through the mountains with a large pine tree at the center and other natural features in view. The caption is printed at the bottom. William G. Kerckhoff was a lumberman and executive with the San Gabriel Power Company and the Pacific Light and Power Company, formed by Henry Huntington for powering his electric streetcar line. After a major project in the San Joaquin River basin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains was developed by Kerckhoff and the PLPC, they were bought out by Southern California Edison. Kerckhoff was also a founder of the Southern California Gas Company and was a developer of Beverly Hills and Del Mar. He had, from 1906 a ranch and home, built in 1917 and which still stands, in the Mount Baldy area above Claremont. The unused card, which was published between 1907 and the 1920s, but probably from the 1910s, has some soiling, a few small stains and minor edge rubbing and is in good condition overall.
