Description

GROUP OF PERSONS IN A MEXICAN TOWN, PRESUMABLY ENSENADA, APRIL 1930 Color: Black; White A photograph of unidentified persons in a Mexican town, presumably Ensenada, Baja California, April 1930. Seven people are in the image, three of them American and the others Mexican. At left there is an undistinguishable pile of material on the dirt road and a Mexican man and American woman leaning over it. Another Mexican man stands at the far left. Behind the abovementioned woman is an American man watching the others, while at right is an American woman standing next to a Mexican woman, who appears to be making something. At the far right is another Mexican woman observing. The group stands below two large trees and there are two or more small structures, which appear to be stores, in the background. It is presumed this is a shopping area in Ensenada, where Walter Temple had moved in March 1930, and that one or more of his children took the photograph while visiting him. On the reverse is a stamp reading "WEBCO PRINT / APR 22 1930 / MADE IN SAN JOSE." Walter P., Jr. and Edgar Temple were attending Santa Clara University then, so the image may have been taken or developed by them. In fair condition, the image has fairly significant water damage at the top edge. Number-Units: 1
