Description

Map, "Head Quarters Department of New Mexico," an official copy of a map accompanying a report on the routes from Tucson, Arizona Territory to Point Lobos and Libertad, Mexico, Senate Ex. Doc. 1, Special Session, 1863. The range shown is from southern New Mexico along the Rio Grande River west to the southern California coast and including portions of northern Mexico. The routes from Tucson to the Mexican coast are in dual lines, but there are also wagon roads and "Practicable Rail Road Route" designations as determined by the 1850s transcontinental railroad studies, including those to San Diego and San Pedro. With repaired tears at several places, original folds, edge wear, and some yellowing, the condition is fair.
