Description

A ledger or account book kept by Henry Dalton for his Los Angeles and Rancho de Azusa stores, 30 September 1845 to 31 December 1856. The book, with a label on the inside front cover from a Boston bookseller, is partially used with the accounting, although there are two pages at the back to account for debts owed Dalton and notes about the likelihood of payment. Entries include a number assigned to customers, the items covered in the transaction, prices and transaction amounts, and other information. Many prominent southern Californians are represented in the pages. With edge wear, including rubbing, missing pieces of paper, soiling, stains, and others, on the cover, but generally clean, tight pages, with occasional liquid stains and soiling, the condition overall is good.
