Description

HIGH JUMP COMPETITION, UNIVERSITY OF SANTA CLARA Color: Black; White A photograph of an athlete in a high jump competition, probably at the University of Santa Clara, ca. 1925. The lower portion of the image was overexposed, but there is an athlete at left center in mid-air going over a pole, but not backward, but rather forward. Two poles are set in the sandpit and there are some people, possibly judges near the high jumper, while spectators watch at a distance in the background. A three-story building is partially visible in the background. It is not known if this was an intramural or intercollegiate event. On the reverse is a pencil inscription reading "74," at the lower right. With the upper right corner missing, pin holes at the upper left and lower right corners, an ink mark at the left side of the bottom edge, bowing of the paper, surface soiling, and some creases, the overall condition is fair. Number-Units: 1
