Description

Color: Red; Gold "History of the Diocese of California From 1849 to 1914," by D. O. Kelley (San Francisco: Bureau of Information and Supply,) 1915. The 471-page book was rebound in a red cloth library binding with the title in gold letters on the spine. Contents include a foreword, twenty-three chapters on the history of the Episcopal Church in California, including some material on Los Angeles; appendices on the history of the canons, parish chronicles, clergy lists, convention and diocesan officials, the cathedral forecast, and the growth of the church in California. There are over thirty photograph illustrations and an index. Notable is mention of "Wm. Workman" as clerk of the Los Angeles parish in 1866--this seemingly referring to William H. Workman before his marriage and conversion to Roman Catholicism the following year. With slight rubbing on the corners and spine; dents on the back cover; spine lettering fading; library markings and residue from a library number on the spine; and page yellowing, the overall condition is fair.
