Description

Color: Black; White A real photo postcard of the Hollywood Bowl, with a date of August 1928 inscribed. The view is from the hills at the back of the seating area and part of two pine trees flank the view in the foreground. Benches and seating areas slope downward from the hill toward the distinctive bandshell of the venue. The conductor's platform, chairs and muisc stands are visible on the stage. Between the stage and seats are areas of lawn, planters with shrubs or bushes and wide stairways, all of which are no longer extant. To the left of this foreground area is a planter with trees and bushes. In the background, behind the bowl, is a fenced area, probably for maintenance. Further back is the floor of a canyon, where cars parked and then hill slopes on the back end of the canyon. The reverse has printing at the top reading "POST CARD / CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS ONLY." Written in pencil below this is "Holywood [sic] Bowl / Holywood [sic], Cal, / Agto [August] 1928." Aside from soiling on the back, dented corners, and slight yellowing, the artifact is in good condition.
