"Home Builders Catalog," issued by National Building Publications, a division of National Trade Journals, Inc., 1929. The 850-page hardcover artifact has a dark blue cover with the title in large gold letters at the top, under which is the price of the item. At the center is an image of a home with a steeply-pitched roof, surrounded by landscaping. Below this is the author's name, under which is the publisher's name. On the spine, in black letters, is the title, the year 1929, and the publisher. A dedication page to home builders includes a description of the catalog, followed by instructions for its use. An index to the contents includes four main sections: manufacturer's catalogs; an educational section of articles on home construction; suggestions for modernizing older homes; and a house plan section with 400 designs. After this is an index to manufacturers featured in the first section, followed by an index of products offered by these companies and a list of product trade marks. Because the sections are lengthy, a list of products, articles, and house plans, which includes detached garage plans and an index, is not possible, but cover every aspect of house planning, construction and maintenance. Accompanying illustrations include black and white and color drawings and black and white photographs. Though the cover corners are worn and dented, the covers have scratches, minor soiling, and ink fading and the binding is very slightly loose, the artifact is in good condition.Lexicon
