HOMESTEAD AERIAL VIEW FROM THE NORTHEAST, ca. 1940
Color: Black; White
A black and white negative of an aerial view of the Homestead, ca. 1940. Taken from the northeast, the main elements of the photograph are, from left to right: the swimming pool/reservoir with grandstand and dressing room; the adjacent tennis court with handball wall on the north side; the garage, just south of the pool; the dining hall, auditorium, and laundry room; the water tower just to the north of these; the Workman House, adjacent to the tennis court; and, at far right, La Casa Nueva. At the upper right, leading toward the center left, is Evergreen Lane, coming from Turnbull Canyon Road and at the lower right is the beginning of a horseshoe drive from the road coming in from Valley Boulevard. From this road branches the east, center, and north driveways. Among the landscaping are acres of walnut trees, mainly seen at the top of the image near San Jose Creek; trees lining Evergreen Lane, presumably evergreens of some type; the oaks at the rear of and tall evergreens at the front of the Workman House and palms, cypresses and sycamores, among others around La Casa Nueva. The lower left is largely an empty field with a few trees here and there, though a depression in the ground seems to run just north of the tennis court. The object is in good condition.
