Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the auditorium and dining hall at the Workman Homestead, ca. 1924. Taken from the east, the image shows the auditorium, the larger of the structures, on the center right with its tall, peaked wooden roof; canopied entry and windows at the northern and southern ends of the east wall. There are cypresses, bushes and other landscaping items around the structure. At the left is the dining hall, though it is largely hidden with only the top of the structure and roof because of its lower elevation and because of the large planter that is in the dirt plaza in the foreground. The concrete planter has a variety of bushes and shrubs, as well as a palm tree in the center. Between the auditorium and the dining hall is a tall power pole, which may have functioned as well as an antenna. A shadow in the immediate foreground appears to be from the garage, off the image at the left. On the reverse upper right is a pencil inscription by a former museum curator reading "Brown," this being the family which owned the Homestead after 1940 and donor of the photo. At the lower right corner is the stamped number "56" and the name "VELOX" is throughout the paper. With only minor discoloration and the lower left corner bent, the object is in good condition.
