HOMESTEAD POOL LOOKING NORTHEASTEntry/Object ID

Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the swimming pool at the Workman Homestead looking toward the northeast, ca. 1925. The photographer stood at the southeast corner, so much of the pool bottom, sloping deeper from left to right is visible. At center left is a slide and ladder ascending from the bottom of the pool. At right center is a smaller ladder leading out from the deep end of the pool. A pipe fence with two curved lights attached to it surrounds the pool and its deck. Behind the pool are some trees, probably walnuts. In the background is part of the town of Puente with the Puente Hill portion of the San Jose Hills above the community. The name "VELOX" is stamped onto the paper on the reverse, while the number "36" is stamped at the bottom right. At bottom left is an inscription by a former museum curator reading "ca 1930s because of good cond[ition]." There is no reason to suppose that this is from that period and, because of the Velox paper, stamping of the exposure number and general appearance of the pool, it is probable that the date is from the 1920s. Aside from two small tears on the right edge and slight surface soiling on the reverse, the artifact is in good condition.
