Description

HOMESTEAD RESERVOIR/SWIMMING POOL WITH WORKMAN HOUSE IN BACKGROUND Color: Black; White A photograph of the reservoir/swimming pool at the Workman Homestead with the Workman House in the background, July 1921. The image is taken from the southeast corner of the reservoir and shows much of the pool, a ladder leading to a slide, steps leading from the pool to the deck in the northwest corner, a set of six dressing rooms at the west end of the deck, a pipe rail with a wire mesh fence behind it on the north side of the deck, and some single electric lights mounted on curved poles. In the background are the southern and eastern elevations of the Workman House. There are some bushes near the north end of the pool desk, a wooden arbor at the east door to the Workman House and some orange trees in the area south of the house. At the far left is a small portion of the grape arbor extending from the Workman House southward toward the Water Tower. On the reverse right is a stamp reading "COMPLIMENTS OF / METRO PICTURES CORP. / LOU STROHM, / LOCATION MANAGER / JUL 1921." It is unknown if the site was actually used for a motion picture, however. Uneven edges indicate the image was cut and there is a pin hole at the top center, fragments of mounting corners at the lower corners, some stains and surface soiling, so the overall condition is fair.
