Description

HOMESTEAD VIEWED FROM NEAR EVERGREEN LANE TO THE WEST, CA. 1928 Color: Black; White A negative of the Homestead viewed from near Evergreen Lane to the west, ca. 1926. Taken from a distance, the view shows the second floor and above of La Casa Nueva, and the second floor and above of the Water Tower. The upper portion of the auditorium roof is notable also. At the far right, hidden behind evergreen trees along the lane of the same name, is a section of a small one-story building that is further away from the other structures near the homes. Three palms around La Casa Nueva, the west side of the Mission Walkway and some trees in the field are also of interest. From where the photographer stood, Evergreen Lane is at the right, roughly parallelling today's Don Julian Road, but there appears to be, directly in front of the photographer, another, perhaps older, road that marks a clear path but has weeds growing in it. It is possible that this is an access road for the field adjacent to it. See items 50.20 and .21 for similar views. Aside from some darkening on the edges, not affecting the image, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
