Description

Photograph, Reproduction: A black and white reproduction photograph of a house under construction in Long Beach, ca. 1920s. The home, a large steeply-gabled structure with a large and small conical towers at the street facade, as wooden scaffolding around it, the roof shingles installed and a number of workers pictured around it. One of them at center right holds a hose and is spraying a material on a wall. Judging from a small billboard at left lower center demonstration of a hose-applied concrete welding material called "Gunite" as well as a large banner on the roof that reads "BUILD WITH QUAKE RESIS----/GUNITE/L.A. CEMENT GU--", it is assumed the photo was taken to document the use of the product. Other workers are shown, apparently mixing concrete and there are many wooden boards seen. At right are a man in a suit, one in shirt and tie, and a worker. The photographer is identified as Winstead. There is a black border around the photo, which is in mint condition. At lower left on the original photograph was "WINSTEAD PHOTO/LONG BEACH/#3557." Number-Units: 1
