"How to Catch / How to Run Bases" by John B. Foster (New York: American Sports Publishing Company, 1928), 145 pp. Number 96R of the Spalding Company's Athletic Library series, the book has a softcover with the Spalding name in white letters at the top of the front, along with the item number and price. At the bottom is the name and address of the publisher. The work includes a section on how to catch with chapters on physical requisites, techniques for catchers including signs, blocking base runners, equipment, and using a mitt correctly. Section two on running bases concerns such items as running out hits, sliding, stealing, multiple base runners, and rules. There is also a reference on other books to read. At the back of the work are unpaginated pages offering Spaulding sporting goods products for baseball, such as bats, mitts and gloves, and shoes. Black and white photographs and some diagrams and drawings illustrate the text. In fair condition, the item has spine abrasions; cover creases, corner dents, soiling; a loss at the each right corner and the spine bottom, and stains; as well as page darkening.Lexicon
