Color: Black; Blue; Red
A three-page manuscript, "How to Make Wine", by Francis W. Temple, ca. 1880s. Handwritten in dark ink on three sheets of ledger paper, the document begins on page 92 with the heading "Wine making by F. W. Temple" and sections on white wine; changing of wine; red wine; and sweet wine. The second page, page 90, is on port wine and new wine. The last page, page 83, is on sulphur with notes on dealing with pipes and bungs. Both of the latter two pages have "by F. W. T." at the upper right corner. On page 84, that is, the reverse of 83, is a title "How to make / wine by F. W. Temple." This is the outside face of an envelope created by folding the document into fourths. Francis W. Temple supervised the making of wine for his grandfather, William Workman, in the 1870s before becoming owner of the Workman Homestead and continuing wine production until his death in 1888. With some stains, particularly on page 83-84 and the lower left corner of page 90 and rust marks from a paper clip on page 84 where the document was folded.Lexicon
