"Hut of California Miner," removed from the "Illustrated News" of 19 February 1853. The woodblock print shows five gold miners in the log structure. One is cooking over a roaring fire; three, including one with a gun in a holster, are talking at the center and the fifth is sleeping in a bunk. Barrels, mining tools, a table, a shelf and other rudimentary accoutrements of mining life are depicted. On the reverse is a portion of a page from the publication with a pencil inscription of the publication title and date. With some bumped corners and a crease or two, the condition is good.
