"In San Gabriel Canyon," by Wright M. Pierce, ca. 1920s. The view showsthe wide expanse of the river bracketed by dense groves of trees. In the distance are some of the adjacent mountains, while in the foreground appears to be a dirt road leading into the riverbed. On the reverse is an ink inscription: "The road crosses and recrosses / the river many times. In / San Gabriel Canyon." Pierce was a Claremont, California ornithologist who died in 1937. At the bottom right is his mark. With some light soiling and edge browning, the condition is good.
